[RC] question for truck/trailer gurus - Cindy Collins

I have my wonderful new Gulf Coast 4 star trailer. Can't say enough about the quality and the customer service. We did run into a major, unexpected problem, though. My truck's flat bed is too long to haul this trailer safely. I can't turn it more than about 45 degrees. The hydraulic jack and battery box would be the "first" thing that would be hit. I have two options. I have already had the truck into a top notch fabrication shop and they can take a foot off the back of the flat bed and rebuild everything for about $1200. The second option involves a hitch extender that is L shaped and moves the hitch ball recepticle about 11 inches forward. With shippping, this option would run about $500. I'd like to hear all of the problems I might have with the extender...any dangers, disadvantages, things to worry about structurally. I have pictures I can send. Need advice asap. Thanks. Cindy
