[RC] Fort Schellbourne XP, West Region - Karen

It's that time of year again - get your XP Pony and yourself packed up and head over to Fort Schellbourne for the 5 day June XP ride!  The ride is in the West region, June 1-5 2009.  http://xprides.com/SchellbourneSummerXP.html  Monday through Friday.

Basecamp is on the Schellbourne Ranch.  It is the SAME LOCATION it has been for the last couple of years.  Approximately 35 miles north of Ely, Nevada on Highway 93.  Turn East on Highway 2 (wide graded dirt road) and go 2 miles before turning right into the large basecamp.  The turn is directly across from the Schellbourne Station.

Cell phone service remains spotty in the area but you can get out if you move around a bit. Alltel worked best there in the past.  There is a pay phone at Schellbourne Station. Our internet should be working and you can have emergency messages sent to duck@xxxxxxxxxxx or karen@xxxxxxxxxxxx

Lunches are included and dinners will be available for an additional fee.  If you are interested in ordering dinners please let Annie know:  annie@xxxxxxxxxxx

The weather forecast for next week is for partly cloudy skies, temps in the seventies during the day and mid forties at night.

During the ride you will ride through the Schellbourne ranch where the cemetery is.  Here is some info on the gravesites there:  http://xprides.com/History.html#Gravesites%20at%20Fort%20Schellbourne

I have also posted a bit about the history in the area and will continue to add more in the next week or two:  http://enduranceridestuff.com/blog/2009/05/fort-schellbourne-history/

As has been posted previously, there is a chance that this ride will probably not occur at Schellbourne again.  At least not in the foreseeable future.  It may be moved to Utah but that won't be determined until after the ride this year and a lot of work.  If you've ever wanted to do Schellbourne, or would like to do it one last time then don't pass up the chance.  Schellbourne is one of my favorite rides and it in gorgeous country.  Plus the history is pretty interesting and what fun to get to ride on the actual Pony Express trail!

Hope you can make it!
