RE: [RC] rancid oil, omega 3 and 6's - Karen Standefer

Nutrena’s Empower has stabilized rice bran (calcium/phosphorus balanced) mixed with flax in an amount that has a healthy Omega3/6 ratio.

I read the same thing somewhere, but the article I read showed rice bran to be in wrong omega-balance group for horses! Flax seed was in the best category.
Also, with rice bran, the calcium/phosphorus ratio has to be addressed (approx. double calcium), or it leeches calcium from the bones. I don't think flax has that issue. But, one of the few brands of rice bran to be "calcium-balanced" is Equijewel, because of their unique extrusion process. However, all the feed stores around here quit carrying it, so I used to have it delivered directly from the maker, Kentucky Equine Research(KER).
