CC Richard Farnsworth was a stunt man for 40 years for Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, etc. He was the one switching from one horse to the other at a gallop or jumping from the stage coach to run forward on a team of 6 runaways to get on the lead horse and slow them down. I saw a photo spread on his stunts in Western Horseman once. In "Sylvester" he plays an old cavalry officer who is working with Sylvester on dressage in the dark. In Lonesome Dove you may remember a scene where Duvall is on a horse and shoots a rifle and the horse cuts loose bucking like a rodeo. That wasn't scripted. His horse cut loose on him and he rode it out beautifully so they kept it in there. I heard Tom Cruise bought him a nice foxhunter as a gift after Days of Thunder because he was an avid foxhunter.
