Re: [RC] is this rude/Drafting - heidi larson

If I feel I'm being drafted off of and it's hurting my horse's mental outlook,
I will pull off into the brush, apologize to the person behind me and say I
need to take a potty break! Works every time!

It's interesting what different
riders will call rude.? I was riding with a woman in a
multi-day and we were near the end of that day's
distance.? I THOUGHT I was being polite by staying
behind her, thinking she could finish before me and get
credit for one position higher.? Instead, she became
miffed with me for riding behind, accusing me of drafting
off her horse.? I apologized, rode ahead, and I don't
remember which of us finished ahead...not that it made any
difference.

So, is that kind of behavior okay at rides and I'm
just out of line to resent it a bit?

I wouldn't consider this beharviour as being excessivly
rude unless you had specifically asked her not to do it and
she did anyway.

It MAY be that she thought what she was doing was being
polite with her borderline unmanageagle horse (e.g. leaving
the water trough with her horse before it could cause some
problems with your horses, only stopping the horse on the
trail for as long as she was alone and when she saw you
catching up, she continued on so as to not subject your
horses to her horse's unmanageablity).

If you didn't tell her that the behaviour was causing a
problem for your horses, she may have not known and just
been trying to avoid causing problems.
