[RC] re: 1908 race - Cindy Collins



An interesting tidbit about Teddy (living here in Wyoming, this is local lore:) is that he was a milk route horse, I believe. He was used to trotting all day long for long hours. He was actually the perfect horse for this endurance task. However, one down side was that his rider rode Teddy from Cody to Evanston instead of shipping him by rail. That was 500 miles. Teddy was likely quite tired when he started. I don't know much about Sam. Tom VanGelder used to put a little note about Teddy on some of the BigHorn flyers. Tom used to have a neat photo of Teddy. And, yes, Bite the Bullet is loosely based on this event. Cindy
