RE: [RC] Rider Cards (was FEI) - heidi

Katrina, I'm another long-time RM who never used rider cards for post-ride data--too many of them are trashed, lost, or whatever to make them very reliable.  It is SOOOO much faster and easier to use the entry forms and the timer sheets.  I've watched RMs use the rider cards, and it is a lot more cumbersome and time-consuming.

Many RMs now have computer programs to do results, but before that was an option, I just took my master time sheet, put the rider entries in the order of finish (writing the ride times on top as I did so), and then I could just go through the stack and copy directly onto ride result sheets.

Likewise, I don't use them when judging BC, either--I use my own master sheet that is set up in a similar order to the BC form.  The only ones I hold when I'm vetting are the ones I pull--until I can get the pull codes to someone doing the paperwork, and then the riders can have them back.

I'm not commenting on anything to do with FEI.

But I have a question that I would like to ask you and Becky, and any other fellow RMs. I have officially been an RM for 4 years now and have been asst RM/Ride Sec for my mother's rides since I was 12yo so I'm not new to management and AERC's paperwork.

What information do you need from the rider cards (besides pull codes) that has to be put in your ride results for AERC? This is an honest question.

When I fill out my AERC forms all I have to have is my master registration sheet and my timer sheet. I give the rider cards back at awards because I don't need them for anything and it does save me mailing them out later.

I'm just curious, because I have heard several RMs say they have to have them and just as many that don't and I was just wondering what the difference was.

This is a response from Becky Hart to me

The rider cards are the property of the ride management.  They are our records and we use to to complete our forms. Riders should not expect to get the cards back. IN 30+ years of competing at every level I have never expected my card back.  I would suggest this person manage a ride to see the amount of paperwork and the need for the cards to complete it.

As far as FEI,  usually most people don't understand how it works w/ AERC until they have done it.  Often an explanation is all it takes, or maybe not....
