Re: [RC] [RC] different sports? - Maryanne Gabbani

The differences are already there.

Riding:
A measurement of success over time with lifetime mileage
A sharing of information for the benefit of other riders and horses
A use of technical (ie, difficult and interesting) tracks for rides
Emotional goals: turtles have pride of place too, and are looked up to for a good completion record.

Racing:
Seen any lifetime mileage? What's a lifetime anyway in that sport?
Tom Ivers got into a lot of trouble with his ex-employers in the Gulf for sharing information...more of a bunker mentality.
Tracks must be as flat and clean as possible.
Emotional goals: come in  fourth and you don't exist

Different enough for you?

Maryanne

I keep hearing people talk about FEI Endurance and AERC/AERA/etc as
'different sports'. It seems on the surface to be true, but when I
ask myself... well how, exactly, are they different? as a SPORT -
which implies rules of the game... then what is the difference?

if we were to design 2 different sports - Endurance Riding and
Endurance Racing  - what would the rules of the game be? How would
they differ? and how would AERC change, or would it?
