No more bulky than the EB, in fact, with the hinge, as you call it, they fold up pretty tight to put in a pack to carry a spare. And that "hinge" allows for the boot to flex with the movement of the foot...

I think they also have a hinge affair at the rear -- I wonder how that will hold up?

They also feel very bulky.

Re: the Cavallos -- that was something I was looking at, too.  Kind of like the Old Mac boots.  Pretty bulky.
