Re: [RC] my mud solution - Laney Humphrey

How do you tack it down around the edges?

A few years ago, I mentioned the flooring I have in my stalls/paddocks, with great interest from the forum. I still get emails now and then asking where I got it, but unfortunately the fellow that sold/installed it then went out of business two years ago (not the product's fault, but a messy divorce) and so I must always disappoint people that ask me. Kathie and Bob Ford are interested in taking over this venture here in Auburn, CA. They've seen mine and Bob helped install a large paddock section for me a month ago. Bob has the fabric and the tools and knowledge to install it. So, if anyone is still interested, contact them: mspooh17 at msn dot com
In a nutshell: it is a thick industrial felt fabric that is used for underneath roadways and silt control. It is soft, yet durable. I had a section that was under shod hooves fulltime for 5 years and wasn't wearing out at all. It had to be torn out with a tractor due to a new septic system we installed there. You put it directly over dirt, or decomposed granite or a thin layer of pea gravel for drainage, but not necessary. No dust in the summer, no mud in the winter. It's awesome and I can't say enough about it. Much healthier for the horses, and manure pick up as easy as rolling the road apples onto a shovel or fork. I don't even use any bedding, the urine goes through it.

I just wanted to mention it after the discussion about muddy horses, and also to let everyone know what worked for me and that it is available again now.
