Re: [RC] Competition - Truman Prevatt

Leaving aside the point made by Bob Morris, a land manager's list of restrictions may not even include "competitions". Nevertheless, in order for us to discuss this issue cogently we need to agree on a definition of "competition". Otherwise, we will be discussing different concepts and that will get us nowhere. I suggest we use Webster's New World Dictionary as a starting point.
It doesn't really matter what we call it or how we view it or how Webster defines. All that matters is how the land managers define it.

As much as it pains me I think Jerry is correct - on those lands were land managers have determined that competitions are not compatible with their management plans we will be doing ourselves a disservice to try to modulate our sport to try to slip an endurance ride in. Although it might meet the letter of their regulation - it probably won't meet the spirit of their regulation or how they want to manage the property. We will only do that once - land managers do not have to issue permits.
