If your family has already been to Death Valley, then where the ride is located 
(in the Panamint Valley and in/around Trona) is probably going to be more 
interesting to them.

Some of the places of interest that are very near the ride locations include:

Ballarat
Pleasant Canyon
Randsberg
Trona Pinnacles
Panamint Springs
Darwin Falls

If they are really avid hikers (it is neither a short nor an easy hike), they 
can start from Ballarat (ghost town) and hike up Pleasant Canyon to Rogers Pass 
and SEE Death Valley.? The ride used to go this way (I don't know if it still 
does), but if last nights winter storm was in that area too, then such a trek 
will include some pretty substantial snow/ice.
