Ad Week Re: [RC] Land in Va. (Background) - Tom Sites

Hello, I wrote this ad for my friend Paulita, who i call my mentress because she asked me to be her mentor.  I know the land and its acess to Slate Lick Fields which is the NF's designated horse area w/in the region it resides.  This was the area that Jerry Fruths horse died and had to be trailered out and buried.  It was a blow to me and all those there that day.  We were scouting potential sites for the OD move and i was the Alternative Trail Chairman.  After Jerrys loss and our bereavment i opted for a recomendation to take the OD to Orkney Springs where it was more accessible, more infrastructure and a community that welcomed the OD and the OD thought so too.  That seems to be a good fit and i think in time it will be a wise decision.

This land and this area is some of the best riding i have seen in Va. and the trails connect to Orkney Springs from the South and go further south to the point we have not found an end.  It may even go to the Va. Highlands and its alway been my dream to have a trail thru Virginia, horses could travel. The main thing about this area is the willingness of the NF to work with us.  There is also a close association with the Mt. Bikers who know and share the isolation of these trails.  There are colleges in H'burg and it is off the beaten path of the north/south corridor of I-81, the main corridor of the Shenandoah Valley.  Its like the mt. bikers said..."this is an unknown find and we should keep it a secret".  Paulita is looking for some good horse neighbors as she is in the process of building her house there now.  ts
