[RC] Mileage patches & trivia - Dream Weaver

I started out putting mine on my saddle packs. Well, for the first 8,000 miles or so and then I ran out of room. So I gave that pack to a friend that had 8,000 miles, and started over with a new one. (note to other addicted riders - it's a good idea to change tack colors every so often).

I had thought about putting them on my horses rump rug or else the crewbag but I hate to reduce the water-resistance of either, and those things all get used and wear out. A jacket wouldn't work for me because I usually ride with a shell of some sort that is goretex on the outside - so it's not very practical to be sewing through that material. For now I've got my mileage patches pinned up on the wall underneath where the horses 1000 mile medallions hang. The medals get the top row, with the mileage patches below that, and then the wall underneath is filled with framed photos from rides. My husband calls it the "horse shrine", and the room is basically just that - filled with photos, awards and mementos from rides and other horse activities. This allows the rest of the house to appear 'normal' (as in, not owned by horses) <g>. Because of the order that everything is hung, I know which horse earned what or which horse(s) I rode to earn each patch.

I can't imagine AERC changing the patches now - not when so many people have ridden so many miles to earn the ones they've got. btw -- the patches don't match as far as their shapes go to use them to line up consistently - and the colors of them vary from white to off white to various beiges. Either because of different thread used, or age - either way once they get put on something it doesn't matter. You only notice if you have them all pinned to the wall in a row, and have a bunch of them.

Some of the best awards I've gotten are ones from XP. A year ago I got a mug from the Grand Canyon ride that says on it "I hauled her ass 7,000 miles and all I got was this lousy mug ~ Granite Chief". I also got a plaque saying the same thing. It's fun to get special stuff like that. If anybody else is going to make a special milestone at an XP or Sunrise Ranch Ride, when you enter put that into your info or send a separate email and The Duck will customize your mug or plaque for you as well. Well, if you ask nice and don't whine :).

How many people know what the highest mileage # patch is that has been given out? Second? Third?
