See that’s the hard part, picking them off, because I do go out and feel them and brush them and never find any ticks.

Yes it is hard to find the little SOBs. See if this works. Run your fingers slowly over your horse's body in the same direction as the hair lies. Feel for a very small bump, like a mosquito bite feels on a human. When you "spot" one, run your finger back over it against the hair. If it is a tick, it will usually come up a bit as you go against the hair. Also, a lot of times a scab (I call them gribblies) will have the tick still there but there will be so much hardened oozy stuff that you might not notice it.
