Short and sweet not good enough for all of you?  My my, Ridecamp is 
just a bunch of Nosey Nancys <G>  And Paul Harvey, come on!  He and my 
parents were friends when he started in Sacramento.  Radio will never 
be the same.

Kat wanted to respond to the inquires with, "It's a secret."  I don't 
suppose that would have been any better received.  So, Nancys, here you 
go.  The Big Bear 100 began with 2, that's two, riders.  It would have 
been one, but Kat decided to ride with Carolyn to keep her company.  In 
retrospect the horses probably would have been better off not riding 
together, but probably would have been real close in times anyway.  
Carolyn's horse, Orzo, can really move uphill, but isn't good going 
downhill fast.  Kat's horse, Wendy, has trouble with the uphills, but 
can bomb going downhill.  Both riders compromised on their horses 
abilities in order to stay together.  Kat went faster uphill than Wendy 
was comfortable with and Carolyn went faster downhill than Orzo was 
comfortable with.  At the second vet check, before Orzo was seen by the 
vet, Carolyn said she thought Orzo was off and didn't think she'd go 
on.  Well, during the trot out the vet said Orzo was definitely off and 
shouldn't go on and pulled him.  Kat thought Wendy was walking funny, 
but didn't seem off.  During the check the vet found the beginnings of 
a girth gall.  Kat chose to RO then before the girth gall got worse, 
especially since a really nasty mountain climb still lay ahead.  So, 
the race ended at mile 38.

Chris Herron left vet 2 at that time to ride the trail back and pull 
ribbons.  He got back to ridecamp about 7 PM.  About 10 PM Kat and Greg 
saddled up fresh horses and took a moonlight ride pulling glow sticks 
that had been put out that afternoon before the rest of the camp knew 
the race was finished.   It also turns out that one of Wendy's hind 
legs swelled, so Kat was correct when she said Wendy was walking funny 
even though she wasn't lame.

A bunch of people went.  Some to crew.  Some to help management.  Some 
just for a weekend away.  And we all had fun.  Even more fun because 
none of us had to stay up all night waiting for the two riders.
