I don't think that many people I know would ding you for shoeing only in the fronts.  The front hooves take a lot more a abuse than in the hinds (usually) and some horses may be just fine barefoot in the back.  There are some horses that use their hinds a lot more and wear them out before the fronts, too.  I used to half-shoe my mare in the fronts only because there was really no reason to shoe her in the hinds.  She simply did not need them,
