RE: [RC] [RC] Barefoot distance - Donna O'Gara

If you ride on abrasive ground you'll probably wear them down a lot faster than
they can grow.

My little foxtrotter mare has been happily barefoot for over a year, probably
all her life. I ride her about 10 to 12 miles a week and I've never had to trim
her. I rasp them a little to keep them neat every 3 or 4 months, but that's
all. If I started riding enough to condition for a real ride I'd soon wear them
down too far.

I ride on adobe, which is too hard and abrasive when it's dry and too slippery
when it's wet.
