Re: [RC] rider option - Lori Bertolucci

Same here. I have a couple of RO's on my ride record, and I had to see the vet before I could call it quits...tho they were for lameness issues, not metabolic.

I have done a couple of rider option pulls for me not for the horse and I was told to go through the vet check before I could leave. It's for that very reason.. your horse still has to be "fit to continue" to get an RO. Otherwise it will get a metabolic or lameness pull.

and as a rider, I want to know that my horse is OK, so I appreciate that.

May I ask why you would not want to see the vet? Especially if you think there may be an issue with metabolics? I would think you would want the vets aware, just in case things went from bad to worse...
Just my thoughts...

If a horse is pulled by the rider...does the horse still have to present to the vet check?  IN other words, if a rider realizes via heart monitor that the horse's pulse is not coming down as it should and the horse maybe has slowed way down and his pee is dark...knowing that the chances are good that he is going to be pulled by the vets for metabolics, the rider chooses to pull his horse himself to avoid the vet check?? Is that possible?
