RE: [RC] [RC-Digest] Vol: 03.5658 - Natalie Herman

<<<Three top dressage riders--one from Switzerland and two from Canada have renounced their participation in the 2008 summer Olympics in China, citing potential equine health hazards posed by extreme climate and travel conditions.>>>
You know, this is why I am not a "show" rider...SHEESH! Ok, so it is hot and humid in China....so was Atlanta, so are a lot of places. The horses spend 10 mins at most going around a ring...these are not even eventers pulling out (much more strenuous)! They are dressage riders! A little heat and humidity during your test will NOT kill your horse for the short time it is preforming each day. Heck, look at all the endurance riders going 50, 100, or more miles in conditions like there will be in China...and how can "travel conditions" for these hoity toity show horses be difficult? They will be getting the best money can buy!
Nat (just shaking her head and laughing...ah well, at least they are concerned for the welfare of their horses for once, which is not so common in those levels of showing...)
