RE: [RC] [RC] Old Horses - heidi

Often the teens are a healthy horse's most competitive years.  A couple of decades ago I did a 1000+ mile season on a 19-year-old mare who did 17 rides that year, including four 100s, and top tenned all but one.  Some of the best horses out there are well into their teens.  The numbers do go down in the early 20s.

Heidi

Not to bring back the original thread but I am wondering how many horses are competitive in 50 and/or 100 milers into their late teens and early 20's.  By competitive I mean 5 1/2 - 6 1/2 hr 50's over relatively flat terrain (midwest).  And I mean all other things aside like lameness etc...I'm talking a healthy, in condition horse that has over 1000 miles of endurance competition already and shows no signs of wanting to stop.
