Re: [RC] e-lyte recommendation - Elizabeth Walker

Ah .. Thanks.

I can understand banning performance enhancers, stimulants, and even calming products (sigh), and I'm really happy to see that things like Adequan are allowed (yet - MSM is not...).  I also didn't see arnica (anti-inflammatory) on the list, but I did see comfrey (calming).   It's those types of inconsistencies that get me confused.

Oh well.  At least I don't have to throw out my elytes (though I went ahead and bought a bucket of the Acculytes - no magnesium sulfate.

At Pine Tree two weeks ago, it was explained to us by ride management and one of the vets, who is on the Veterinary Committee, that the rule is currently being rewritten to make it clear that Mag Sulfate is OK in the dosages used in electrolytes… the prohibition is more for large dosages of Mag Sulfate used with the intent to improve performance in an illegal manner.  (Hmm…. It was a lot more clear when he explained it to us.)  The end result was, though, that he said it’s fine to use Perform n’ Win or any other e-lyte with Mag Sulfate.

True.  I don't remember if anyone knew *why* it was on the list, though, or if there was another source of magnesium that could be used for electrolytes.

Well, the first thing that I noticed about it was the ingredients. We just had a discussion about Mag. Sulfate being on the AERC prohibited substance list didn't we?

INGREDIENTS
Salt (Sodium Chloride), Potassium Chloride, Magnesium Sulfate, Potassium Sulfate, Dextrose, Artificial Flavor, Artificial Coloring.
