[RC] Big Brown's shoe - Dot Wiggins

If you google Big Brown Shoe a whole bunch of sites come up. I don't remember which one said the person that took some of the photos out of the gate didn't look at them till some days after the race. He then gave them to the owner. One of the photos clearly show BB shying a bit, and getting his right hind next to Gaudalcanal and getting stepped on. Having the shoe jerked around is certainly not the fault of the farrier, groom, jockey or trainer! There is a person on the track ahead of the horses that may have caused the horse to vere over. If you have ever hd a horse smack a hoof on a rock you'd know it really hurts, might be 3 legged lame for a few steps, and be perfectly fine ten minutes later.
Another site, later than these pics, says they knew the shoe was spread after the race, but didn't think it was important till they saw what it looked like during the race.
I'm not sure I think the trainer is a sterling character, but he got the horse in shape to run 5 really good races so he had to do something right.
This whole thing may well be in the s**t happens catagory of events. And maybe not. Interesting anyway.
