Cindy is right about the origin of this comment as I remember. She I think is also right that good trail horse that is ridden regularly should be able to do 25 miles in 6 hours.

I took my old mare who was an experienced trail horse and did a 25 mile CTR (which in Florida is 4 hours not 6) without any particular special conditioning and without any problems and she went on to do lots of rides including 100's and is down in the pasture right now at 28.
