Re: [RC] Eventing's Classic Format - Quentin & Libby Llop

I've only done one one star event (on two horses), but I had the best ride of my horses entire career on the 35 fence cross country that followed roads and tracks and steeplechase. It changed the way that I warm up for x-c at a horse trial and my horses enjoyed steeplechase so much that I even raced them over fences a few times. OTOH in the non-sanctioned training division at that event, a horse died on roads and tracks - stepped wrong in the soft shoulder of a sand road and broke it's leg. Libby

The second being, that the first three phases of day two served as an excellent warm up for the extreme challenge of the cross country course, and there simply isn't enough room at a venue that doesn't have the "road and tracks" for the full format to properly warm up your horse and get it into the right frame of mind and body.
