This is going to be a race. I've heard a lot of people talking about  
the chance of breaking speed records because of the cool temps.  
Tomorrow is expected to be partly cloudy, possibility of rain, high  
of 73 (23) low of 60 (18).  Will probably be quite chilly in the  
morning... might not be as many photos of people pouring liter  
bottles of water all over their horses. I think that the prize money  
(not to mention the 4 4x4 cars) will be enticing some competition,  
but more than that this is 'the big one' of the season. The first  
time Dubai has done a 160km race since the last WEC here, and it  
seems to be drawing more interest than the Presidents Cup which is  
scheduled for 6 weeks from now. Or maybe since it's the first 160km  
of the season... at any rate there seems to be a lot of tension, a  
lot of 'big deal' seriousness.

I saw most of the foreign riders during trot-outs, they seemed to be  
a little more light hearted. I don't think any of the riders who  
brought their own horses have great aspirations for winning, but with  
the cooler weather predicted they are probably more encouraged about  
a decent showing. There is a 13:20 cutoff - so this is not a 'get  
around' event.  Folks think the winning time will be around 8 hours.

Race starts at 6am.

I'll try to send photos during the holds - will be out on course  
following His Majesty Mizan (Malaysia) ... and hoping all goes well.
