Re: [RC] Ho Boy! Here comes PeTA! - Karen Everhart
Please go back and read Marianne's post; http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/05/sports/othersports/05rail.html.
Even "insiders" are saying there is no place for these horses, if trained
properly, to be whipped or forced into the starting boxes. Perhaps, when
we FINALLY start holding owners, trainers, riders, wholly responsible for the
fatal outcomes, we MIGHT begin to see a shift in attitudes and behaviors.
But everyone just calls it a "sad accident". It was certainly MUCH MORE
than a sad accident for Eight Belles.
It is absolutely unacceptable, to me, to see these types of
tragedy's. Yes, accidents happen, but this filly DID NOT get into a jammed
up pack, she did not trip over another's feet, she simply ran, and ran her heart
out and was obviously NOT ABLE to withstand the pressure, for whatever
reason. Perhaps, had she not been pushed so hard, her life might had been
spared had she placed third or even fourth. Who knows for certain?
If rumors hold true, that the owner ran this filly at the protest of the
trainer, then he should be held FULLY ACCOUNTABLE!!!
This foolishness of chasing fame and fortune, with the animals paying the
price, simply MUST STOP.
No - I am not a member or supporter or advocate of PETA. I am an
advocate for the horses. PERIOD!!!

I know.. this is ridiculous. They have also
cited another reason for him to be suspended.. she was "whipped mercilessly"..
holy crap..
I am sure the world would be a better place if
horses weren't ridden when they are so young, but getting PETA involved is NOT
going to help this along. Geez..
