Re: [RC] Supracore Pads - Don Huston

Hello Beth,

I have used an Orthoflex Patriot with a WoolBack pad for years with no problems but thought the idea of more air flow and a cooler back for my horse would be an improvement so we tried the Supracore (regular endurance style) for 3 months on training rides and 4 50's. I found the pad to be too stiff and very abrasive to my horse's skin during the long hours of endurance. The last ride with the pad we completed the hot 3day 155mi HogWilder. Several days after getting home the skin on my horse's back, where the pad was pressed down by the saddle, started flaking off. It was a huge area telling me that this was not a pad for my horse. That had never happened before and has never happened again after going back to the WoolBack. I sold the pad for $100 to a lady here in San Diego. Just my experience.

check with folks on the list.

I ride in an English-style saddle (ASC Rubicon), which seems to fit
my horse very well. I had it fitted to him before I bought it, and
had it re-checked after riding in it for 6 months. I currently ride
in a very thin pad. The only reason I'm looking for a different pad
is that the binding on the back of my current pad doesn't hold up --
it frays, and since it is synthetic, it then gets rough and rubs.

The supracore pad is significantly thicker than the pad I have (about
1/2 "), so I was a bit concerned about whether it would cause my
saddle to fit too tightly. Anybody have any opinions?
