Re: [RC] Question on odd heart rate on two TWH - Truman Prevatt

Truman, I do believe you have the best explanation yet. I can't imagine that the HR is truly that high, as I don't think he could ever have completed a 50 mile ride if it was. Would also explain why he only does seems to run that high in the diagnoal gaits.

The main reason I was suspecting the monitor was because that's very close to a 50% increase of the heart rate i would *expect*, so the idea that one beat could be somehow being read as two was not terribly far fetched. But then the question becomes "why?" and "has anyone else seen this?". I tend to ride with a pretty loose girth, which i plan to tighten a bit this weekend as I begin experimenting. Would you suggest possibly moving the lower electrode higher up the side?

Loose girth allows more motion of you electrode against the skin.
What's the build/breed of the Jbird? This horse of mine (barn name Joseph, endurance name Talk Dirty to Me) is very lean bodied, built like a TB in the barrel, with huge laid back shoulder and a hip that's nearly horizontal.

The JBird is lean with a very deep heart girth and slad sidded - sounds like your horse. The only place I can put the electrode on his girth and have any chance of it working is very low - below the elbow.
