RE: [RC] [RC] Breeding Hybrids (was: Spanish Mustangs) - heidi

I must agree with Kat on this. Everyone here thinks that breeding pure Arabs
for the halter shows is really wonderful,

Maryanne, please read my response to Kat. Being a "pure" Arab or a "pure"
anything else does not mean that the horse is not a hybrid. In fact, the
hybridization process has also been used to make the "extreme" horses of the
show ring--with a lot of "throw-away" horses in the process, in the attempt to
get that "one in a thousand look"--and then people wonder why these horses
don't breed true to type! By the same token, when you DO get horses bred like
that that actually have the ability to work, they are the exception rather than
the rule, and when you breed them, THEY don't breed "true to type" either,
because they are not bred to breed and are likewise hybrids.
