[RC] A Taste of Endurance - Fun Ride - Peter HarperHello All, Our local ride club is sponsoring a Fun Ride April 19th. This is a non-sanctioned ride to raise funds to benefit the Trinity Trail expansion. Our goal is to extend the current trail system along Lake Levon to where we can host a real AERC ride in the near future. If you know someone who is interested in trying out endurance riding this would be a good ride to get their feet wet. Best Regards, Pete Ride Notice: The Trinity Trail Preservation Association is sponsoring "A Taste of Endurance" fun ride, April 19th at the Brockdale Park Trailhead in Lucas, TX. This is not a sanctioned endurance ride but an opportunity to come out, have fun and get a feel for what an endurance ride might be like. You will able to choose from three different ride lengths. 16 miles, 10 miles or 6 miles so you can customize the experience to your and your horse's conditioning. The ride will be limited to the first 80 riders to register. Dr. Chuck Kerin, DVM and some of his staff will be on-hand to conduct vet checks typical of what one might encounter on a sanctioned ride. Junior riders, 14 years old or younger, will be required to wear a helmet and be accompanied by a rider 18 years of age or older throughout the ride. Everyone will receive a completion award and there will be awards presented for the top ten to finish. The entry fee is $25 for those who pre-register and $35 to register the day of the ride. The entry form can be found on the TTPA website, www.trinitytrailriders.org and it may be printed, completed and mailed along with a check made out to TTPA to TTPA Secretary Pat Martin, 4040 Avion Drive, Wylie, TX 75098. Pre-registration will make signing in the day of the ride much easier and faster. Gates will open at 7 AM and registration and a pre-ride vet check will begin at 8 AM. There will be a pre-ride meeting from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. At 11 AM, the 10 mile and 16 miles riders will start out on the course followed by the 6 mile riders at 11:30 AM. Meals will be available for a $5 donation beginning at 1:30 PM. A post-ride meeting will be held at 4:15 PM with the presentation of awards. For further information, contact Ride Manager Betty Van Houten at bjhouten@xxxxxxxxx or via telephone at 214-864-4066. Lucas is northeast of Dallas, TX. From Dallas, go north on US 75 to the Bethany Drive exit in Allen and go east. Take Bethany Drive through Allen into Lucas (about 5 miles). Counting the light at the expressway exit, you will go through eleven lights. Bethany Road changes its name to East Lucas Road along the way. At the eleventh light, the road name changes to FM 1378 (Country Club Road). About ½ mile after the eleventh light, when the road makes a sharp curve, you will see a stop light and the Lucas Food Mart and gas station on your left. Turn left here on FM 3286 and go less than a mile to Brockdale Park Road. It turns off to the right. There is a brown park sign marking the turn. If you get to the bridge over Lake Lavon you have gone too far. Follow Brockdale Park Road around to the trailhead. You will drive through three 90-degree turns. The trailhead is at the 3rd 90-degree turn on the right and is bordered by white pipe fence. If you get to the boat ramp you have gone too far. ____________________________________________________________________________________ No Cost - Get a month of Blockbuster Total Access now.
