I started this S-Hack thing in endurance/trail riding back in the late 80's so I've tried a number of things that go well with them. I've found that using a Running Martingale does not engage the curb chain on the S-Hack. What does work well is the German Martingale. I've designed my own "Free & Easy" German Martingale for just this set up. Between my Daughter "Charlene Lewis" and I we now have over 100 riders using this set up.

What is nice about the German Martingale is that you can neck rein, pull up a horse out of a buck, and keep their heads going more straight ahead, round out their top line, and it also "Trains" them, not just "Restrain" them. So in the long run your horse should be out of the German Martingale in 6-12 months with just a few touch ups or for the start of a ride for a few miles.

thanx for the info.. I looked at your martingale. Okay folks... the "shade of green" I am is about to be revealed.... again:) Couldnt tell if the reins were included in your setup. I curreently have the S-hack Arabian and beta biothane reins from Sportack (and of course a breast collar).. If you could clarify what would work.

And last but not least... what are the exact differences between a running and german martingale. Thanx all
