I think the general issue with weight distribution is that the roads are generally crowned to the center, where theoretically your horse's heavier half stands.  If he's facing downslope away from the crown, the trailer will be more apt to tilt away from the crown of the road.  I guess it's not enough to make a difference, though!

Sorry, that must be a myth. I've hauled backwards for years. Haven't had a trailer get messed up for it yet. Also, stock trailers are made for them to ride any which way. When we've hauled cows they run around that trailer like it's an arena--trailer still works. (And yes, I haul backwards in a Sundowner also, with a back tack--it still works too. :o))
