Re: [RC] FEI - racing - riding - Europe - USA - John Teeter

a brief opine:

I think the AERC and USEF will find a new relationship after the new FEI Endurance rules go into affect. This because there is a possibility that there will be either 1)contradictory rules or 2) unpalatable extensions of existing rules concepts. If this should happen, the ability to harmoniously hold jointly sanctioned events may be at risk and, as they say in france "walla" (phonetically spelling of course:) - it's the splits.

a brief example of a simple thing that the USA didn't really feel is the effect of the 2008 stipulation that all passports must be FEI passports for CEI***(*) events. This means that the Australians can no longer use their log books as passports - i.e. every FEI horse in AUS will have to be passported this year. an expensive undertaking which will initially lower the FEI participation significantly while making every Australian rider question the sanity of setting FEI competitions within their goals.

The FEI wants to unify the passports to enable global record keeping (based upon FEI riderID and horseID/Passport). The FEI global rankings and such are the current state of affairs in this area.
