Going for meat would be a humane end . I am afraid that since they are not meat horses grey and arab the crazys will buy a bunch of cheap ones and the suffering will continue. There are worse situations then being dead. Seems that as soon as one disaster is cleaned up they find another.
There are to many horses out there and not enough buyers.
The only solution is to stop breeding. Every breeder thinks that means everyone but them.
Go watch Black Beauty to refresh your mind on what a horses life can become once you have sold them.

If they were actually starved and thin they will not go for slaughter.  We have bought all our horses 25 plus at auctions and we see what the meat buyers bid on.  If a horse is thin, they usually just turn their heads and never offer a bid.
