[RC] Grandpa - Bruce Weary

I have lost all my grandparents, and the last to go was my Grandpa, Robert Weary. He was a grocer for 70 years, put my Dad through dental school, helped several grandchildren through college, and was the most generous man I have ever known. And the kindest. I never saw him angry.
He was an avid pilot, and flew until he was 88. He hung up his wings at that time, even though he passed the flight physical. He quietly and graciously endured the torture of my grandmother's demise from Alzheimer's disease. A widower at 85, he found love again. He began dating his neighbor, but soon realized she wouldn't be interested if he continued to smoke. So, he quit. Cold turkey. After a 62 year habit. And they were married at the ages of 88 and 67.
Marie took great care of Bob for ten more years of marital bliss. At 97, he began to fail, and my father, brothers, and I, visited him one day at his home for a long reminiscent conversation. It was the last time I would see him, and before I left, I asked him if he needed anything. He said, "Just love me."
No problem, Grandpa. No problem.

Grandpas are great. Dr Q
