[RC] Pres cup - rides2far

With all due respect Catfish, trying to maintain a 15 mph or more
pace and ending up with 78 or so lame horse is cruel, no matter
where they are.

Whereas I have no use for the desert racing, I think you need to let up
some on the pull rate. 100 miles is 100 miles even when you just *ride*
it. I looked up the Biltmore stats for 2004. 78 starters, 32 finishers 7
metabolic, 30 lameness, 6 Rider Option and most were probably just trying
to complete. Those horses weren't trashed, they just didn't make it 100
miles that day without something making them less than perfect.

I don't like what they've turne the sport in to over there, but from the
people I've talked to, they have done so much research and have so much
time and the resources to do so many things right, they are getting
superior athletes. I too am a bit leary about them being turned out in
heaven on earth pastures when they're done, considering they have to fly
in all their hay, etc. It would be cheaper to ship them to countries that
had forage if they honestly "turn them out", but as for the pull rate,
for that speed, I thought it was impressively low.
