Re: [RC] President's cup - oddfarm

I don't have to be fair. I know what they went there for. It doesn't make it any less cruel to me. I envision what Frank wrote recently about seeing a rider whip his or her horse with a stick or branch just to get across the finish line. It sickens me.

Actually, they only brought 28 who have "proven they have trained to the point that they can run those speeds,". We probably didn't see that many metabolics yet because the horses haven't had TIME to get sick! Oh geeze, there goes my blood pressure :(

I would still like to see where those horses are next year.

Boy, when I started scrolling down the elimination page I kept
saying,"Wow. Wow! WOW! ARE YOU KIDDING?!"

To be fair, what else can you expect. It's not like our rides where 5 show up to race and 95 show up to complete. Everybody showed up to race and go for the win. Not like you'd go over there for the scenery. >g< There were very few metabolic pulls though which is also interesting at those speeds.

Here's what struck me. The recoveries are amazing...but you just don't
get recoveries like that on raceday without a tremendous amount of
pushing the envelope in training. Competition is not the only place where
things can go wrong. Courtney hinted at that in one of his posts. I think
what would be *really* interesting...but would never happen, is for all
riders to declare what horses they wanted eligible and were in training
for this ride a year or two in advance. I wonder how many horses have
been trained for this ride but couldn't handle that level of training.
Doesn't mean they're dead or anything, just that they were weeded out in
the process. If you're going for that sort of recoveries at those speeds,
you've put a lot of stress on those legs. They're apparently only
bringing the ones who have proven they have trained to the point that
they can run those speeds, but the stress of it showed.
