[RC] Saddles for the odd couple???!!!!!!!!!!!!! - L gin

Anybody else have long thigh, wide seatbones --(need flat seat)--I measured on a chair (9" apart)
have a horse with

Shortback, medium wither, well sprung O shaped horse with elbow only girth groove--

want security for Arab Teleports on hilly, forested, rocky trails
(ie.endurance/western pommel or, poleys, or bucking roll -something in front of you besides his neck and the ground)

Some freedom of legs, to wrap around your O horse-(dressage position throws you onto delicate ouchy place)(too western -forward and you can't post on your O horse)

I am still looking to fit us. Demoing--tried one treeless, and may try another . Past saddles include (western arab, His shoulders broadened, started pinching. Abetta endurance,Ok for a year , then started flexing down onto his back)Aussie endurance, I got the seat an inch too big, billets are in dressge postions , pulls saddle forward, have to take out of channel,, he bites at side after riding, where they are. Leg position too far forward, so had to put webbers on, and shorten so I can pull my leg back to get around his ribcage--bend and fold leg)-- I can make this work, but need a smaller seat size, too roomy for me.Also used a Len browne Correcter under it and can pad it up.--some pressure on cantle area on my impression pad, if I use a thin pad.has foam close contact panels.Rode him in it 3 years.

Angie was right--it is often easier to replace your horse then find the right saddle fit. I have read EVERYTHING---out there--- I finally have the $--but find $ may or may not have anything to do with fit. (exception--too cheap is too cheap)

Even the saddles being designed for Endurance seem to be for riders who are lightweights or shorterleged ----(I am average weight for my height and age.)--
And the saddles aren't for O shaped shorbacked horses with forward girthgrooves.

I think I may have to jury- rig another saddle--
I am beginning to think I will have to get my screwgun, buy a leather sewing machine, get some nylon strap, leather panels, bucking rolls/ pommel and stirrup bars and make my own...............

Seems when ever I am interested in a saddle concept they say it won't work for me or my horse---or if it does, it would be ok for arena , but not " Mr Toads Wild Trailrides........."

Seatbelts and foam--with a wool pad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Easyrides of course........

I have memorized the saddle websites---anyone want to play ":Saddle fit Trivia"---??
