Re: [RC] [RC] Ride Managers -- Question - Dawn Carrie

Val,
It's allowed, yes, as long as the RM who is riding has designated someone to be in charge while they're out on trail - an alternate RM.  However, as a RM myself, I can't imagine riding my own ride.  First, I feel like it's my responsibility to be there to handle any problems that come up.  Second, I simply couldn't enjoy myself...I'd be too worried about what might be going wrong back at camp.  LOL  I've seen people who designate a spouse to be the RM on paper, so that they can ride the ride themselves, even though the rider is the one who has really organized, and is in fact managing, the ride in reality.  I couldn't do that either.  But that's just me...

I've got a question for Ride Managers that manage rides out west...or anywhere for that matter I suppose.
How often do Ride Managers and/or their family members ride the ride they are managing?
I don't mean that the RM is not available...but say at a ride that has 2 RMs with one being the main RM and the other being either an Asst RM or Alternate RM...with one actually working the ride as the RM and the other RM riding in the ride itself.

I didn't think this was allowed but perhaps I'm wrong.

Just curious...and thanks,
Val
