Re: [RC] Get the right problem and get the problem right--promoting endurance - Betsy O'Shea

That is Roller Derby.  Verry popular in the 50's and was televised 5 nights a week. It was women's roller skating.

...So, Paul, if you (and the rest of us) can come up with a way to make something exciting out of horses going around a track 50 times, you may have something worth watching.  ...

I know! I know! I know!!!

Endurance Derby!!!

We use a 440 yard track!  (Better audience contact anyway.)  Two teams
of five riders. As the riders circle the track, the members of a team work
together to "launch" one of their members ahead of the pack.  Then they
work together to block any of the other team's members from breaking loose.
The rider who has broken loose laps the field and comes up on the rear
of the pack.  Then the other team works together to prevent the loose rider
from passing any of them!  400 laps!! No holds barred!

It would be great!

(I should go do something useful...)
