Re: [RC] [RC] river crossing - Don Huston

Hi Kathy,
Yes the 301 & 305 have improved the reception some. The other thing that can help is where you put the unit. For best reception the unit should be on the top of your helmet :-[ so in the interest of recording a good track thru difficult terrain are you willing to try it? Duct tape the straps to your helmet, turn that puppy on and kick it. :-D The only area that I have absolutely no data is the 3-4 miles of trail from the Forrest Hill vet stop to Cal-2.
Thanks

Hi Don,

I?m a different Kathy but I ride that area frequently as well. My GPS cannot keep in constant contact with the satellite in the area between Driver?s Flat road, where the single track down to Poverty Bar starts, and the river crossing. I have the Garmin 201. Maybe the 301 could do it?

Hello Kathy,

I am hijacking your post to ask if you or one of your friends has a GPS that can be downloaded to a computer and if you would be willing to record the WST Trail from the Forrest Hill vet check west down to Cal-2 then email me the track? In 2006 Tom Noll rode the 100 and recorded everything except that portion....his GPS lost reception from trees or cloud cover whatever. Anyway if somebody can get that portion then I can finish my map and send it to whomever wants it.. 8-). Actually if you are going to ride from Forrest Hill to Franciscos or whatever I could use the track to verify and improve on what Tom recorded. Any data you can send me would be very helpful and of course you will get a nice map for your trouble ;-)
Thanks for any help
