[RC] re:grass hay - rnbianchi

Thanks to everyone for their replies about feeding grass hay.  We usually feed a grass/alfalfa mix hay, right from our own hay field, but with this year's drought and losing the first cutting to rain we only got about 60 bales, - not nearly enough to get my three horses through the winter.  I know from living in CA that I shouldn't complain about the cost of hay here; timothy grass hay went for $16 a bale in Half Moon Bay when we lived there.  Still, when you are used to paying $150/ton and now have to pay $250/ton because people are so afraid the hay supply will run out this winter it gets a bit unnerving when the horses use the hay as bedding only...
Thanks everybody,
Becky
