Re: [RC] senior feed - Nancy Sturm

Susan,

I'd look at the alfalfa. I haven't fed it to horses since my old
Thoroughbred days, but it has the reputation for making hroses hot.

Hunter, the energizer bunny, needs beet plup to maintain weight and I have
added other stuff, including senior feed. He east better if I use LMF
Showtime, so the senior feed is out for now. I don't really see that any of
it makes him sillier, he's inclined to be anxious and reactive and he
"worries" his weight off. I'd be glad to switch metabolisms with him. He
also has grass hay and pasture turn out.

Tim Hunter, cowboy and endurance rider, told me once that it's almost easier
to have a horse that needs additional nutrition than it is to manage an easy
keeper. I have come to think he's right. The Standardbred and both
Icelandics are air ferns and their intake has to be monitored as closely as
that of the lithe Hunter.

Nancy
