Re: [RC] Trail trash tirade, with apologies - D'Arcy Demianoff-Thompson

No need to apologize Julie.  I personally feel you put the entire subject line of LD's, AERC - (grievances, protests, and horse welfare) , and rude obnoxious players into proper perspective.  It reminds me of the saying, "if you don't like something stop complaining about it and do something about it.  Affect change, policy, and or/yourself!

If one is to believe everything they read on any bulletin board and/or ride list, pertaining to endurance riding, one would be highly skeptical of any endurance rider at any level.  And especially at the higher levels.  I have not, to date, found this to be true, as of yet.  I haven't been on an official ride yet.  I have, however, been taking the last year and will be taking another 4-5 months preparing my horse.  I have been fortunate to meet, ride, and learn from some of the BEST in the industry~  And you know what...NEVER has one of them  EVER complained.  I know they could be riding way beyond me on any given day.  The dedication, time, and support they have shown me has been unbelievable.

Not only have I found support on the trail I have found an incredible amount of support here on this list.  People who remain in the background.  People who don't get involved to prove they know what they are doing or what they are talking about.  They don't have anything to prove to anyone.  And I'd like to take a moment to thank a few:  Mickie, Ranelle, Kathie F, Kathy S, Shonna, Julie, Donna, Crystal, Laura, Bruce, Truman, Jim, John, Steph, Merri, Sally and Nick - just to name a FEW!   You have offered so much and asked for nothing!  Thank you!  All of you and the stand that you take in life is what keeps this sport alive for me.  Thank you for your patience, kindness, and understanding.

So, thank you, Julie, for your post and giving me an opportunity to reflect why I am here.  Why I don't get freightened away at any give moment.  It is, because of the professionals, such as yourself, who keep me grounded, focused, and centered on my overall goal.  That, my friends, to me, is what this sport is all about!  Therefore, if one is not happy with the politics of AERC - stop complaining and do something positive to affect change!

This really gets to me and I know it has been hashed and rehashed ad infinitum and we are all sick of the subject so I hope not to extend it too much.  The L D’ers who feel they are looked down upon, who seem to find that all “high and mighty" 50 and 100 milers are rude are going to have to start naming names because I do not know to whom they are referring and I really want to know.
