Re: [RC] LD drama again - Jody Rogers-Buttram

That is the point.  NONE of us have any promise that we will finish.  This sport is not an "everybody is going finish" guarantee.  It IS about doing your homework, like you did, it IS about taking a chance, like you opted not to do.  That is your choice, and you did what you felt like you needed to do for the day.

I select to put my horses in the 50+ division, from the very beginning.  I hope that I don't appear to look down on anyone.  I certainly don't feel that way toward them.  The older endurance group views this differently.  We view it as, we are willing to take that chance with the horse, if he doesn't feel right...we pull.  It is just how we were brought up in this sport.
People need to accept the fact, that endurance is a risky business.  It is not a slow lope around the show ring, it is not a spin over the perfectly groomed hunter course.  It is not a Sunday trail ride with friends.  It is ALWAYS taking a risk with your horse, and your own safety.  We ALL have those same little problems that add up and haunt us through a ride.  But we have ways of coping with them most of the time, and finishing with a horse that is happy.  I don't think any of us mimic a 100 mile course like Tevis or OD at home either....but people prepare for and do those.  It's ALL about the risk taking.

I never would have finished the 50 with the combination of my little problems.
There are things you just don't realize at home till you get into competion on ride day. And you cant mimic that at home.
