[RC] Introducing a 5 year old Quarter Horse Alpha Mare to two young Geldings - Queenslace

Hi All!

I searched the archives but I may not be using the right text to get a hit. Just steer me there if this topic has already been covered.

My friend has two young geldings 10 months and a year and a half in one paddock.

She brought home her 5 year old quarter horse mare tonight. She just bought property where she can have all three at home with her.

The young ones were boarded in a different locating than the mare so they have not met yet.

It was too dark to let them mingle but just introducing them over the fence did not go well. She turned and kicked. Need-less-to-say we stabled her mare in my barn tonight becuase it was too dark to let her in with them.

Do any of you have any tippers on this. My friend is so worried about the mare hurting the young boyz cuz they just want to get to her to visit and she doesn't seem to want it.

I have experience with my mare meeting my gelding but he was 5 and big enough to take a wack from her.

We are worried these babies don't know better and we don't want their little legs or bodies hurt.

Any safe suggestions?

She does have another paddock, should she wait until they are her size to bring them together?

Thanks.
Denise
