Re: [RC] saline solution - Beth Walker

I looked around on the net, and found several recipes. ?Of course, they all had slightly different ratios or units ....

from?http://www.geocities.com/vnarn_nj/ ?(Home health nurse) : ?1/4 teaspoon to 1 cup water?
Somebody check me, but I think this is equivalent to 2 teaspoons salt to 1 quart water.

2 teaspoons to 1 quart water ? ?(gee - they agree)

? 1 teaspoon to 1 quart water

Sue's recipe splits the difference. ?:)

One thing mentioned in several areas was that it should be made fresh, as bacteria can grow in saline solution, so it isn't a good idea to make up a big batch and keep it around for a week.

I don't know if this is the right ratio for wound care, but I found this mixture in Nancy Loving's book "All Horse Systems Go", in reference to irrigation for eye injuries.
?
1/2? tablespoon salt to 1 quart water.
?
Hope this helps.
