[RC] Why would you bother? (was: NATRC is not endurance) - k s swigart

I have little desire to ride endurance, unless
I have no CTR available close by and want
to test and condition my horse some for the
next CTR.

For somebody who has "little desire to ride endurance" I am confused as
to why one would even bother to go to an endurance ride only to "test
and condition" their horse.

I can test and condition my horse at home for a lot less money and a lot
less trouble. I can see using an endurance ride as a schooling
opportunity to teach the horse to deal with large groups of horses on
the same trail going at different speeds but to still have to be
attentive to me.

Is this the type of "testing and conditioning" you are striving for?

If not, what else does an endurance ride provide that cannot be achieved
at home?
