[RC] Shagya Arabians - Donna Coss

Your endorsement, Lynn, of the Shagya is appreciated by all of the Shagya breeders in North America!

This breed is amazing and many of the horses that have done well in the UZES, Young Horse Trials have
Shagya blood. The French have recognized this breed and what it offers. In fact they sent 30 or so
endurance riders to the Shagya show in Babolna, last July, to learn more about the breed. So they must
appreciate and want to know more about the SHAGYA ADVANTAGE!

Here in the U.S. the breed numbers are small, but growing and new European lines have been added,
producing Shagyas are are very good examples of well conformed, athletic sport horses.

The French breed Shagya and purebred Arabians into their sport horse lines, using both breeds to produce
their ANGLO ARABIANS. A French Anglo Arabian can be 1/4 Shagya and 3/4 Thoroughbred and still
be a reg. Anglo Arabian. Where in the U.S. --the Shagya cannot be used like this--as AHA only allows purebred Arabians!

The advantage is that the Shagya has the better bone and substance, are larger and because of their
affinity to the Thoroughbred this cross is exceptional They also have been bred to be more quiet and not as
flighty. The "mind thing" is a real thing with the Shagya and hardly equaled by any breed in existence today.

Many of the Olympic competitors have this combination in their bloodlines.

Breeding your Arabian mare to a Shagya stallion is always a great idea and will more then likely produce
a very competitive endurance mount--what is winning today in Europe because the French have refined
this cross and are using it well.
